The Role
As our Legal Counsel, you will be positioned within the Group Legal team reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel MENA.
You will be the first point of contact for all material legal queries and matters pertaining to DSV businesses in Kuwait and support other legal issues in the MENA region with adherence to local country laws and DSV Group Legal policies, we trust you to provide professional focused legal advice and guidance consistent in recognizing and managing internal risk, and recommending legal strategies designed to mitigate DSV’s legal exposure in the region.
Responsibilities
Advises the leadership, business development and sales teams with legal advice and assistance pertaining to the freight forwarding and logistics business in adherence to local country laws and DSV Group Legal policies.
Drafts, reviews, and negotiates agreements related to freight forwarding, warehousing services, truck brokerage, road transportation and real estate transactions including lease agreements, etc. in the best interest of DSV’s business.
Liaises with the Group Legal, insurance, and other group entities to assist and advise the business/sales personnel on the T&Cs for sales/commercial contracts
Manages all aspects of litigation and pre-litigation matters by liaising with and reporting to the DSV Group Legal in respect of such claims/litigation.
Assists with corporate governance matters, including preparation and maintenance of business entity documents, company formation, preparing resolutions and consents, and managing annual shareholder meetings.
Coordinates with customers to guarantee terms of contracts are fulfilled in compliance with the contract terms and regulations.
Advises stakeholders on legal trends, developing areas of the law, industry trends and related risks that may impact the DSV operations and/or services.
Provides support to Human Resources on a range of labor and employment matters, contracts, agreements, including policy implementation and training as per the DSV SOPs.
Engages and instructs external legal counsel, on matters including but not limited to material claims/litigation, in coordination with local, regional, and Group Legal teams.
Leads dealings with local authorities, customs, police, ministry, government authorities on matters of material legal and regulatory importance when necessary.
Educational Qualifications & Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited law school
Highly effective communication in English and Arabic
5 years of experience, ideally with an in-house legal team or a reputed law firm
Preferably worked with the transportation, freight forwarding and logistics industry.
