Vice President Security

Purpose:

Provides operational oversight across the Group Security Departments in all operational countries with the goal of reducing and mitigating risk exposure and maintaining compliance to international norms.

Objectives:

· Actively manages and facilitates work performance of employees across the department including attendance, leave management, poor performance and disciplinary matters.

· Manage and ensure on time completion of requirements under the people performance management cycle for the Department.

Legal Framework / Governance

· Ensure site operations are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and company standards.

· Develop and maintain appropriate relationships with regulators / external legal advice.

· Oversee, review / audit regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities:

Leadership

· Lead the Security Team in implementing Corporate direction to mitigate loss to the business.

· Articulate the strategic direction of the department across all levels of the business

· Actively promote an environment where all employees are engaged and valued with focus on the continuous improvement of the business.

· Ensure effective processes for communicating relevant information to the Security Team are in place.

· Living and leading the Company values and demonstrating Safety Leadership at all times.

Talent Management

· Identify, select, develop and retain top talent within the department as required for long term succession planning and nationalization.

Planning

· Contribute toward the development of a 3-year plan and integrate components of the plan into a coherent Business Plan and budget focused 12-months ahead.

· Develop an annual 12-month tactical plan integrated with the approved Site Security Management plan and provide inputs for budget planning cycles on site.

· Identify shortfalls against plan and implement associated remedial actions.

· Measure performance to plan on a monthly basis.

Deliver

Immediately address any variances against the plan to ensure delivery of the annual security business plan.

· Develop and execute contingency plans to ensure plan delivery.

Security Performance

· Organize, maintain and manage a Security Plan for all business activity in Country incorporating offices, camps, production facilities, utilities, exploration sites, project sites and off-site Company infrastructure.

· Establish and maintain security systems, including access control, security monitoring equipment and location specific security procedures in compliance to Corporate standards.

· Coordinate and maintain delivery of security support that is aligned with the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights.

· Coordinate with the appropriate Government entities to ensure that security operations are compliant with relevant legislation and regulations.

· Manage all elements related to Gold Security across the site.

· Manage security of hazardous chemical and explosives storage areas.

· Develop and maintain emergency response contingency plans and programs related to the security of people, product and assets.

· Establish information networks essential to Security Operations.

· Maintain and review annually the Security Risk assessment pertinent to Site/Country operation.

· Coordinate closely with all other service provider departments - Government Relations, Community Relations / Social Performance, Human Resources regarding security conditions that impact communities or employees and ensure that all investigations are conducted consistent with the Companies HSEC and HR policies, standards and guidelines.

· Conduct criminal background checks of all applicants for designated positions.

· Coordinate with local Police, Gendarme, Military and other Government entities with regards to security conditions and resources.

· Develop and maintain the Security Risk Register and track mitigation efforts.

· Oversee security incident planning and response operations and assist with the remediation, disciplinary and legal matters associated with such matters as necessary.

· Collect and consolidate security statistics into monthly reports for distribution to Site Management and Corporate Teams.

· Represent the Company on external security advisory groups and committees as required.

Security Systems

· Manage QA/QC and review Security system management.

· Manage and facilitate document control for the Security department.

Business Improvement

· Ensure tangible business improvement targets are set as part of the business planning process and the conditions are in place for the targets to be met.

· Ensuring that there are effective processes for eliciting and acting on (including communicating) employee ideas.

· Include measurable business improvement objectives into individual performance plans and reviews of direct reports.

· Regularly monitor the status of the department business improvement plans.

Requirements

Qualifications:

· Previous Military or Law Enforcement experience preferred.

· Tertiary degree or equivalent

· Fluency in English and French required

Experience:

· 5 - 10 years experience in the Commercial Security industry.

· Previous experience in Military Intelligence preferred.

· Prior experience working in a remote mining environment.

· Computer literate and able to work the Microsoft Office packages

· Ability to develop succession planning in a formal manner.

· French language proficiency required.

· Corporate reporting experiance

Knowledge:

· Previous experience in extractive industry preferred.

· African experience a pre-requisite

Skills:

· Good communication skills.

· Ability to work with teams of people.

· Computer literate – Microsoft word suite
