Golang Engineer
About the Job
This role is for Golang engineers of all levels of seniority to work with Canonical, supporting various product teams. You will be responsible for contributing to software projects where performance and security are of utmost importance. While Canonical also works with Python, C, C++, and Rust, Golang is a primary language for many of their critical projects, including Juju, Livepatch, LXD, MAAS, Microk8s, Snapd, and Ubuntu Core.
Canonical’s mission is to deliver innovative open-source solutions worldwide, and Golang engineers play a pivotal role in building, testing, and managing distributed systems operations and software distribution. This role is fully remote, and the company has openings for Golang engineers in every time zone.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement well-tested and documented software in Go.
- Debug and resolve issues encountered by users.
- Participate in code and architectural reviews to ensure software quality.
- Collaborate with teams and communities on technical specifications.
- Continuously improve engineering practices and processes.
- In some cases, deploy and operate services developed by your team.
- Advocate for technical improvements that contribute to the success of the product.
Qualifications:
- Exceptional academic background from high school and university.
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, STEM, or an alternative compelling path.
- Proven track record of exceeding expectations in past roles.
- Experience designing and developing high-quality Golang software, especially on Linux.
- Passion for Linux, particularly at the system level.
- Familiarity with distributed systems and APIs (senior roles).
- Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Experience with Linux (Debian/Ubuntu preferred).
- Willingness to travel twice a year for company events.
Additional Skills:
- Experience developing on Ubuntu Linux.
- Familiarity with Juju, LXD, Microk8s, Snapd, Ubuntu Core, and Ubuntu Pro.
- Experience in performance engineering and security.
