Procurement Officer/Buyer
Job description
- Responsible for overseeing the end-to-end procurement process for all electrical equipment, components, and services required for plant operations and projects.
- Ensures the timely acquisition of high-quality goods and services at optimal costs, manages supplier relationships, and maintains strict compliance with procurement policies and industry standards specific to the steel manufacturing environment.
- Develop and implement procurement strategies tailored to the electrical needs of the plant, ensuring alignment with project timelines and operational requirements.
- Review and analyze purchase requisitions for electrical items, ensuring technical specifications and scope are clear and complete.
- Identify, evaluate, and select qualified suppliers of electrical equipment, components, and services based on TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) principles.
- Lead contract negotiations with suppliers, securing favorable terms, pricing, and delivery schedules while ensuring compliance with legal and organizational requirements.
- Manage the full procurement cycle from request for proposal (RFP) creation, bid evaluation, and order placement to delivery, inspection, and payment processing.
- Monitor supplier performance, resolve issues related to quality, delivery, or service, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with other departments like production, engineering and maintenance to clarify technical requirements and address any procurement-related challenges.
- Maintain up-to-date records of all procurement activities.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards in all

- Identify and mitigate risks related to supply chain disruptions, price fluctuations, and compliance issues.
- Utilize procurement software ARIBA and ERP systems (SAP) for efficient process management and reporting.
Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- Additionally preferred certification CIPS / CIPP.
- Minimum 5 to 8 years of relevant procurement experience, with at least 3 years in a similar role within the steel or heavy manufacturing industry.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical equipment, components, and suppliers relevant to steel plant operations.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and contract management skills.
- Proficiency in procurement software, ERP systems (SAP), Microsoft Office tools, Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
