Fire Inspector
About the Job
This position will be physically located in Kuwait in support of LOGCAP. Under the supervision of the Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention, the Fire Inspector plans, organizes, and conducts fire prevention activities, including fire inspections, fire investigations, public education, plan reviews, and fire protection system acceptance inspections. The Inspector will assist in implementing and managing the Fire Prevention Program to ensure compliance with the Performance Work Statement, Army Regulation 420-1, DOD Manual 6055.06, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), policies, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections and maintain documentation of all facility fire inspections.
- Perform plan reviews to ensure fire protection systems comply with policies and UFC guidance.
- Participate in and maintain the fire extinguisher exchange program for facilities.
- Conduct training for Facility Managers, Fire Wardens, and other fire prevention personnel.
- Work with DPW to conduct final acceptance inspections on new construction and renovation projects.
- Maintain appropriate documentation on the inspection and testing of wet pipe sprinkler systems.
- Participate in Environmental Safety and Health (ESH) programs.
- Help formulate long-range goals related to the protection of personnel, facilities, materials, and equipment.
- Assist with fire investigations as required under AR 420-1 specifications.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education/Certifications: One year of related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if a degree is required.
- High School Diploma
- Five (5) years of fire prevention experience.
- A combination of education from an accredited college or university in Fire Service and Fire Service experience totaling at least two (2) years may substitute for the two (2) years of fire prevention experience.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science is preferred.
- Must hold the required certifications IAW DOD Manual 6055.06 as well as be IFSAC, Pro-Board or hold other certification acceptable to DoD and certified to the following levels:
- Fire Inspector II
- Fire Investigator (Preferred)
- Public Fire and Life Safety Educator
- HazMat Awareness
- Must pass a physical exam, federal background check, and possess a current, valid U.S. passport.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain valid Secret Clearance.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and host nation Driver’s License are required.
Experience:
- Required: 5 years of related work experience.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Fire Inspector, Fire Prevention Specialist, US Military, DOD, or civilian.
- Highly Desirable: Certifications as a Plans Examiner.
Skills:
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills and general word processing and computer skills.
- Knowledge of occupancy classification types, fire hazards present in various occupancies, and occupant load factors relating to various occupancy classifications.
- Knowledge of fire department mission and organization; safety requirements and objectives; fire alarm and communications; fire behavior; portable fire extinguishers; personal protective clothing and equipment; water supplies and sprinklers; hazardous materials; fire prevention and public fire education; and fire cause determination.
